Labour contracts in Spain
Spain is taking steps into the right direction, aiming to simplify the current model of labor contracting. In fact what is being approached is a simplification of employment contracts by reducing the number of exisiting models or forms of contract, that are going down from 42 to 4: permanent, temporary, training and learning contract and internship contract.
– Permanent contract: This type of contract does not involve a time limit when the service is provided and may be both part time and full time. Included is the permanent contract of support to the entrepreneurs that is as we want to remind of directed towards enterprises of less than 50 employees and is based on a test period of 12 months without compensation. Moreover, it can now also be subscribed to part time.
– Temporary contract: It will last a maximum of three years which can be extended to 4.
– Training and learning contract: Only applicable to employees / workers over 16 and under 25 years although it can be signed with workers under 30 until the unemployment rate gets below 15%. Its minimum duration is one year and the maximum is three years.
– Internship contract: Only applicable to employees / workers over 16 and under 25 years but it can be signed with employees under 30 years of age until the unemployment rate falls below 15%. The minimum contract period is one year and the maximum is three years.
In short, a more flexible and agile regulatory framework that will allow companies /enterprises to save costs and to be more competitive.
